- Description:
- After the Rochester Pavilion Hotel burned down in 1877, this site sat vacate for nearly 10 years. In 1888, R.O. Smith built this two-story brick hotel, called the Sidney House. In 1895, William Bowman renamed the business the Detroit Hotel, which it remained until it was destroyed by fire in 1927. Caption on postcard lists F.E. Arnold as the proprietor. The Van Hoosen Farm in Stoney Creek Village was home to the Taylor and Van Hoosen families, dating back to 1823. Alice Serrell was a close friend and employee of Dr. Sarah Van Hoosen Jones, who managed her family's farm from 1927 to 1952.
