- Description:
- Exterior view of the Country Club of Detroit, in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. "The clubhouse was approached from Lake Shore road on the north by a driveway that skirted a broad stretch of lawn, the massive brick structure was flanked at each end by projecting bays, while at the center was an ample porte-cochere, at the western end of the building a recessed porch overlooked the tennis courts, facing the lake on the south, a covered glass-enclosed veranda extended the full length of the building, this was interrupted at the center by a two-story portico with brick piers ... although [Albert] Kahn's country club was not, strictly speaking, an example of domestic architecture, nevertheless it was closely related in style to some of the houses he was building at the time," from "The Buildings of Detroit: A History," by W. Hawkins Ferry.
