- Russian prisoners leave the theater barrack after an afternoon performance. By the smiles on their faces, most of the men appear to have enjoyed the show. The YMCA provided theatrical costumes, props, and play scripts to improve the morale in camps through entertainment.

- One of the barracks at Dunaszerdahley is ablaze at night. This was one of the worst nightmares for POW's because fires were particularly dangerous in packed barracks. Camp administrators strictly prohibited smoking and other fire hazards in camp buildings in an attempt to prevent conflagrations and trained fire crews to rescue prisoners and combat the flames.

- Dejected and dirty Italian prisoners sit in the castle prison courtyard at Laibach. An Austrian non-commissioned officer stands to the right near the doorway of the castle. The photograph caption describes the Italians as "basking in the sun," but it is clear that they have a lot of time on their hands and little to do in Austrian captivity.

- A group of British interned civilians at Raabs enjoy a sunny day with their families outdoors. These prisoners held British passports when the war broke out and the Austrian government eventually interned them as enemy aliens.

- Austro-Hungarian infantry storm Serbian positions at Avala in October 1915. The Austro-Hungarians were able to penetrate the Serbian lines surrounding Belgrade and forced the Serbian Army to retreat to the south during a hard winter in the Balkans.

- As Austrian guards look on, a Serbian prisoner purchases a loaf of bread from a woman on the street. The Serbian prisoners would continue to find it difficult to obtain bread even after they reached their prison camp due to the effectiveness of the Allied Blockade. The Serbian prisoners are in deplorable shape, as reflected by the condition of their uniforms, which reflects the situation in Serbia after the fall of the kingdom in October 1915.

- While many of the high-ranking Polish Legion officers remained in captivity, these prisoners were discharged from the prison camp at Bustyahaza on 31 March 1918. The signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk ended the fighting on the Eastern Front and temporarily established the regency in Warsaw as the legitimate Polish government.

- This article from "Der Krieg" provides an overview of German and Austro-Hungarian prison camp money (Lagergeld). Prison camp authorities issued script for Allied prisoners of war to make purchases inside prison camps. These authorities wanted to reduce the amount of money POW's used to reduce any opportunities of bribery of guards or to support escape attempts. Examples of script on this page are from Oberhofen (one Pfennig) in Germany and Chemnitz (ten Pfennige) in Saxony.

- Russian prisoners enjoy the YMCA Reading Room at Braunau-am-Inn, which featured a wide selection of books, journals, and newspapers. Two prisoners are engaged in a game of dominoes on the front table and a gramophone stands in the back of the room. The prisoners decorated the room with garlands along the rafters.
