- The YMCA sent these recreation chests to Arbeitskommandos working away from their parent camps. Prisoners of war assigned labor detachments lost their access to regular Association programs and the Red Triangle sent them these chests to help them pass their free time. Each chest contained a selection of books and reading materials, games, and musical instruments. The Association sent these particular recretation chests to German prisoners of war working in England and France.

- French and British prisoners are engaged in a "cootie hut" outside of their barracks and next to the laundry at Muenster. The POW's had to regularly take their bedding outside for airing to get rid of lice and other vermin. In this camp, prisoners took their wooden bunks outside as well for cleaning. Some prisoners pass the time by playing board games while others simply sit around talking. German authorities were constantly vigilant to prevent the outbreak of epidemics in the densely crowded barracks of enlisted men.

- The prison camp orchestra, composed of British, French, and Russian musicians, pose for a group photograph with their musical instruments at the prison camp at Goettingen. The orchestra performed at the dedication of the new YMCA hall in 1915.

- The Russian prisoners of war at Goettingen formed a balalaika orchestra. Their musical instruments ranged from small mandolins to the large bass balalaika.

- Notes:
- British prisoners at Schweidnitz produced the English-language newspaper "The Barb." This was the 27 May 27 1918 issue of the prison camp newspaper. POW camp newspapers carried a great deal of information regarding camp activities (sports, education, entertainment, and social news) and often featured fiction and humorous stories.

- This is an interesting view of the non-commissioned officers' quarters at Goettingen. Two French prisoners of war at the table play chess. The room is decorated with photographs and pictures, and the occupants have access to a number of books as well.

- This color poster advertises the Dottyville Pierrot Troupe for their September 18, 1918 performance at the prison camp at Kedos. Prisoners performed in the pierrot show which featured pantomime and comedy acts.

- This drawing of the city of Angora was drawn by a British prisoner of war from his barracks. He depicts the city and the citadel on the top of the hill. Art work provided POW's with entertainment and relief from the monotony of incarceration.
