- Dr. Harlan Jennings, associate professor of music at Michigan State University, presents "Horace Tabor, Baby Doe, and Denver's Tabor Grand Opera House." Jennings examines the role of the railroad in spreading opera to the West during the late 19th century and the early stagings of opera in Colorado as a preface to exploring the rise and fall of Horace Tabor and his Grand Opera House in Denver. Jennings explores Tabor's rise to wealth in the silver mines of Leadville, Colorado and his affair with Baby Doe which led to his eventual downfall and the sale of his Grand Opera House. Jennings answers questions from the audience after the presentation. He is introduced by MSU Music Librarian Mary Black Junttonen. Part of the MSU Libraries' Colloquia Series.
