- Dr. Jeffrey Rothstein delivers a talk entitled, "When good jobs go bad: globalization, de-Unionization and declining labor standards in the North American auto industry". Rothstein compares three General Motors auto plants around the world while talking about the changing nature of jobs and the impact on work in the auto industry in the face of a globalization of the manufacturing economy. He describes good auto industry jobs which provide access to the middle class, but says that these jobs are getting steadily worse. He calls for an international labor standards structure to protect workers. A question and answer session concludes the session. Rothstein is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck. He describes work in the Body Shop where a majority of workers were black and were spread out on the line "so they couldn't talk." Willie spent a short time as a per diem supervisor but decided to get active in the UAW and was elected committeeman. He discusses racism, graffiti, and daily life in the factory.

Michelle Obama announces that the corporations that make up the American Logistics Association have committed to hiring 25,000 military veterans and spouses over the next two years. President Obama explains that hiring veterans makes good business sense and that veterans bring extraordinary skill to the work place.
