- President George W. Bush makes his fourth State of the Union address focusing on domestic issues, foreign policy, and the war in Iraq. On the United States economy, President Bush says in order to make it stronger, more dynamic, competitive, and productive we need to demand better results from high schools, encourage small businesses, and look towards renewable energy. President Bush announces that the government will continue to support faith-based groups, which bring hope to harsh places. He asks that the Ryan White Act be reauthorized to bring prevention, care, and treatment to the HIV/AIDS outbreak. When speaking of the war in Iraq, Bush says, "In the long term, the peace we seek will only be achieved by eliminating the conditions that feed radicalism and ideologies of murder." Showing the improvements of the Palestinian regions, Bush talks about the recent voting in the area, in which many women got the chance to speak out in their government. To promote peace in the Middle East, Bush states that the U.S. must work with its friends in the region to fight the common threat of terror and confront regimes that continue to harbor terrorists and pursue weapons of mass murder. "Today, Iran remains the world's primary state sponsor of terror -- pursuing nuclear weapons while depriving its people of the freedom they seek and deserve."

- President Obama describes the complications associated with the individual sign-up for the Affordable Care Act and apologizes to Americans whose insurance plans are being canceled due to the law. Obama explains that about five percent of the population are at risk of having current policies cancelled because those plans no longer meet the ACA standards for minimum coverage. He says the website is being fixed and is confident everyone will be able to register by the March 2014 deadline. Obama also talks about National Security Agency surveillance of foreign leaders, negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, and the rumor he considered replacing Vice President Biden with Hillary Clinton for the 2012 campaign.

- Gladys Welch says she joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps because two of her brothers were in the military and she felt she also needed to serve and that she actually served two "hitches" in the Army. She was first stationed in Iran from 1943 to 1946, during World War II and later reenlisted for service in Europe from 1946 to 1958. Welch recalls the heat in Iran and visiting the Holy Land while on leave and traveling extensively throughout Europe. She says that she did not initially plan on an Army career, but found adjusting to military life to be easy decided to reenlist and serve to retirement. Welch also says that after her discharge, she returned to private nursing and taught psychiatric nursing at Mercy Hospital. Welch is interviewed by Marjorie Brown.

- Elizabeth "Betty" Hulings Booker discusses her service in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War Two. Booker, who served with the 19th Field Hospital in the Persian Gulf, recalls her childhood and education at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing prior to enlistment and then shipping out by way of the Mediterranean Sea to a field hospital in Iran. Iran, she says was part of the route used to ship much needed supplies to Russia for use on the Eastern Front. She also talks about the excitement of mail call, the twelve hour shifts she worked caring for injured American and foreign troops, her feelings about army pay and food and feeling threatened by the excessive amount of attention she received as a woman during a rest and recreation trip to the Holy Land and the Caspian Sea. After the war, Booker says that she married and raised a family, used the G.I. Bill to earn a Master Degree and later taught Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh. Booker is interviewed by Mary Meyers.
