- This folded sheet of writing paper was from the personal stationery of William E. Quinby who was the President of the Detroit Free Press. It is blank, slightly yellowed, and the shows the sender's initials, "WEQ," in a decorative blue and silver script at the top. The paper also has a watermark that shows "Academic, C.G.&S., London."

- This 9-page letter is a blue carbon copy that was typewritten onto slightly to heavily yellowed paper by Wales C. Martindale who was the Superintendent of Public Schools. The paper shows his office letterhead in fine black script in the upper left corner of the page (first page only). The letter is dated December 31st, 1900, on the first page and is signed, "Wales C. Martindale," in black ink on the last page. He has also signed "W. C. Martindale" along the left margin on pages 1 through 8. The body of the letter gives many details and statistics concerning the history and development of the public school system in the city. The pages of the letter are held together at the top with two brass prongs.

- This folded sheet of writing paper was from the personal stationery of Charles L. Freer. It is slightly yellowed and the sender's address, "33 Ferry Avenue," is printed at the top in black text. The paper also has a watermark that shows "Scribner's Vellum." The handwritten text is transcribed as follows: "Hon. W. C. Maybury, Mayor etc., My Dear Sir: In compliance with your courteous request, I have taken pleasure in writing a few lines on the "Possibilities of Detroit as a Manufacturing Center," and beg to hand you the same herewith enclosed. Your plans to entertain our friends of a century hence is excellent and I only regret that my little paper is not more worthy of the occasion. With every good wish and heartiest New Year greetings, I am, Faithfully yours, Charles L. Freer."

The upper left corner is printed with the return address of the Executive Office. - Letter from the Office of the City Controller, Detroit. The cover page shows the letterhead of the office which is printed in black and blue text on slightly yellowed paper which has the watermark "Linen Record, 1896." The names of the officers are shown in the upper left corner: "F. A. Blades, Controller" and "Howard C. Beck, Deputy." The body of the 5-page letter is printed in typewritten text that has been mimeographed in a purple color onto the letter pages. The letter is dated December 31st, 1900, near the upper right corner area on the first page and the last page has been signed and dated in black ink by "F. [Francis] A. Blades, Controller." The letter gives a general discussion of good fiscal practices and comments concerning the Annual Report of the City.
