- Reporter H.M. Miellis covers the arrival of 32 Dutch farmers in Hoboken, New Jersey who are to spend six months on American farms with host families studying American farming methods. Acting Consul General for the Netherlands Taksera Van Matta delivers a speech about the generosity of America and the knowledge the Dutch farmers will receive from their time in the country. Miellis also interviews two of the Dutch farmers who are going to Michigan, discussing what they grow in the Netherlands and what they hope to learn from American farmers.

- Michelle Napier-Dunnings, Executive Director of Michigan Food & Farming Systems (MIFFS), delivers a talk entitled "Supporting the Many Faces of Farming." Napier-Dunnings talks about the many different types of farms and farmers in Michigan and the goal of MIFFS to connect small farmers with resource opportunities in order to develop profitable and environmentally sustainable livelihoods. She describes a variety of the business activities MIFFS supports in rural, suburban, and urban communities, and the difficulty of growing food in diverse environments. - Russian prisoners of war plant seeds in a newly ploughed field on a German farm. Prisoners engaged in agricultural work were not paid as well as POW's who worked in factories but farm workers enjoyed better meals in relation to their comrades back in the prison camps.

- Prisoners from Muensingen worked in labor detachments on the farms surrounding the prison camp. In this wood block print, a French prisoner tills the soil with a pair of oxen led by a German woman. Women often took over the care of farms when their husbands were mobilized for military service.

- Russian prisoners on a labor detachment build a huge pile of hay for winter fodder. Both the Germans and Allies relied on horses for transportation and cavalry warfare. In the insert is a photograph of a "typical" Russian prisoner.

- French prisoners spread fertilizer on a field with manure from the horse drawn wagon outside of the prison at Friedrichsfeld. The POW's are spreading guano in the field in preparation for spring planting. Prisoner labor was critical in supporting the German war economy.

- Three Russian prisoners of war with shovels unload a narrow gauge railway car full of potatoes in a German prison camp. A Landsturm guard supervises their work. Railways were critical for transporting supplies to prison facilities for daily operations.

- Prisoners augmented their meager diets at Soltau by gardening using seeds provided by a YMCA secretary. Rations could become monotonous in prison camps and fresh vegetables helped improve POW diets.

- A French prisoner feeds the chickens at a prison camp in Germany with a German guard. The chickens provided eggs for the kitchen and meat for the soup. The work is not overly stressful as the French soldier smokes a pipe.

- Oral history interview with Diana Giles. Interviewed by Norma Gonzalez Buenrostro. English language recording. Summary in English and Spanish. May 17, 2016. Diana grew up in Hart, Michigan. Her family moved to Oceana County in 2002 when she was five years old. Her parents were migrant workers who were recruited to work in Oceana’s agriculture business. Diana and her family were the first Hispanics that settled in the area. Her parents had agricultural and factory jobs there. When Diana was 9 years old, she began working along with her parents, experiencing what it was like to do labor work. Diana is currently a community health worker at a migrant clinic. She is studying to be a nurse and a respiratory care therapist.

- This photograph shows four potatoes that have been "sabotaged" by Allied prisoners working on agricultural labor detachments. The POW's cut the eyes out of the potatoes and without these seeds, the Germans would be unable to grow the next crop of potatoes. Due to the effectiveness of the Allied blockade, this practice placed an even greater burden on the German war economy.

- A Russian prisoner is hard at work ploughing a field behind a team of horses under the walls of Lichtenstein Castle near Muensingen. Allied POW's supplemented local agricultural labor which allowed the Germans to maintain food production despite the mobilization of farmers into the German Army. This prisoner is leading a pair of horses; most farmers used oxen due to the army''s demand for horses at the front.
