- British, French, Belgian, and Russian prisoners of war pose for a group photograph with two German nurses in the prison compound at Konstanz. Most of these men were seriously sick or wounded and awaited their last medical examination in Germany. Konstanz was a transfer station for prisoners bound for internment in Switzerland for the duration of the war.

- A group of French, Belgian, and Russian war prisoners at Reserve Lazarette III in Luebeck pose for a photograph. Note that the German orderlies are wearing black, white, and red arm bands, the German imperial colors. The Germans captured large numbers of wounded war prisoners during their drives into Belgium, France, and Russia early in the war. Seriously wounded or sick POW's were sent to military hospitals and then to reserve hospitals to speed their recovery.

- The medical staff at Langensalza assembled for this photograph and includes French, Belgian, British, and Russian doctors and orderlies. They assisted the German medical staff in the treatment of sick and wounded prisoners in the camp. Under international law, doctors and medics were supposed to be repatriated, because of their non-combatant status, but the need for medical care in POW camps required Allied doctors to remain incarcerated to care for sick and wounded Entente prisoners.

- A delegation of German doctors, French doctors and corpsmen, and a French nurse visit the hospital at Wetzlar. They stand in front of the hospital ward while prisoner patients stand behind a barbed wire fence. Red Cross inspections became a common practice in prison camps to ensure the best possible care of POW's under the care of the belligerent powers.

- These prisoners of war are recovering from wounds or illnesses in the hospital ward at Goettingen. All of the beds have patients, but they are sitting up and appear to be on the mend. In addition, the ward appears to be well stocked with supplies and staff.

- A German medical officer vaccinates Belgian and French prisoners against cholera in the prison camp in Chemnitz. Epidemics raged quickly through prison camps due to the close proximity of prisoners in cramped barracks and German medical staffs took preventative measures to ensure healthy prison camps. German authorities were also concerned about civilian populations and possible epidemics especially since prison camps were constructed near towns and the war prisoners often provided labor for a variety of projects.

- German doctors and Belgian prisoners treat French and Belgian prisoners of war in the camp infirmary in Ludwigsburg. POW's arrived in camps recuperating from serious to light wounds and many became ill in captivity. The Germans provided extensive medical care, especially after epidemics broke out in several prison camps which resulted in Allied protests and neutral inspections.

- German doctors and French and Belgian orderlies minister to patients in the hospital ward at Erfurt. Many of the patients appear to be Russian POW's, each enjoying their own metal frame bed. The facility is new and includes a stove in the center of the ward.
