- Three Russian prisoners at Worms demonstrate their artificial legs that they received in prison. Many POW's arrived from military hospitals without limbs and the Germans, with the aid of charitable organizations such as the YMCA, provided these unfortunates with modern prosthetics.

- French, Belgian, and Russian prisoners line up outdoors for their allocation of hot soup from the large metal and wooden pots steaming on the ground in the prison compound at Darmstadt. Once the POW's received their rations, they returned to their barracks to eat their meal.

- This photograph portrays a group of British children and their teachers at the civilian internment camp at Raabs. Most of these children spent the preponderance of their young lives in Austrian captivity.

- After crossing a railroad bridge from Serbia, the Austrians load these Serbian prisoners of war on to a ferry for transport to an Austro-Hungarian prison camp. In addition to the POW's, the ferry carries rails and wooden ties for railroad bed construction.

- Recently exchanged Russian prisoners of war from Germany enjoy a lunch in Petrograd which was hosted by Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna. The repatriation process allowed the Allied and Central Powers to exchange badly wounded or seriously ill soldiers who would otherwise be a burden on the captor nation. Russian Red Cross nurses care for the exchanged war prisoners.

- This drawing shows a French prisoner of war tied to a stake for some infraction of the camp regulations in a German POW camp. The prisoner was forced to stand for hours outdoors in all sorts of weather. The POW suffered from fatigue, sleep deprivation, and exposure from this kind of punishment.

- The church in Sennelager II in the snow amid the fir trees surrounding the structure. Allied POWs constructed the building and it became the center for religious services in the camp.

- Skilled craftsmen provided important services to prisoners in prison camps. This is the interior of the tailor shop at Muensingen in which French prisoners repair uniforms. The working conditions are very good in this shop; the prisoners have access to light from the large window and electric light, warmth from the wood stove, and a variety of tools, including a sewing machine.
