- French and Russian cobblers practice their trade at a work bench outside of their workshop at Danzig. These craftsmen provided important services to prisoners who could not work without proper footwear. Apprentices could learn a new trade by working with experienced shoemakers.

- View of the city of Yozgad and the Allied POW quarters, secretly photographed by British prisoners incarcerated there by the Turks. The British POW's ingeniously constructed a camera which allowed them to record some of their experiences under Turkish captivity.

- This row of short barracks served as the Polish officers' quarters in the prison camp at Huszt in 1918. A group of officers can be seen hanging up their laundry and blankets on the fence by the first house to the left.

- At the disinfection station, the Russian prisoners of war surrendered their clothing and took showers or bathed in a special dip to kill vermin. Barbers shaved off their hair and beards to eliminate any sources of lice. After their clothing went through a disinfection process, they were returned to the Russian prisoners. This is a photograph of the same four Russian POW's who arrived in the prison camp.

- Five Czechoslovak Legionnaires were hanged from makeshift gallows from trees in Montello, Italy for fighting for Czechoslovak independence with the Allies. Austro-Hungarian authorities charged these prisoners with treason and found them guilty.

- Secretary Daris A. Davis prepares circulating libraries for shipment to prisoners assigned to Arbeitskommandoes. Prisoners working in labor detachments could not visit the prison camp library and longed for access to books. Each traveling library carried a set of approximately thirty books. When the members of the labor detachment read all of the books, they could exchange the library for a new set of books.

- This one-Pfennig note was valid for use only when prisoners made purchases within the prison camp at Preussisch Holland. German authorities issued limited prison script to preempt attempts to bribe German guards and to eliminate the currency's use in the event of a POW escape from the facility. Note the Prussian Ministry of War stamp on the note.

- British prisoners of war relax in the compound at Doeberitz in the first few months of the war. They eat at the outdoor tables and live in the tents in the background. These men will provide the labor for the construction of the wooden facilities that will house them in the coming years.

- Prisoners perform an outdoor concert and theatrical performance for sick and wounded prisoners in the courtyard of the hospital at Grafenwoehr. These performances helped lift the spirits of men recovering from illnesses or wounds.
