- The Miss Lansing float on East Michigan Avenue in the June 1959 centennial parade. The Lansing Cafe and the old Altman's clothing store on the corner of Grand Avenue, can be seen in the background. The print was probably hand-tinted by Carl Dalrymple.

- Grand Rapids achived more than its quota of 100 recruits for the Navy as the whirlwind enlistment campaign closed on August 12, 1942. A "battleship" on wheels was convoyed down Monroe Avenue by a police car. Honorary "recruiterettes" from the A.B. Marcus Show of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" playing at Ramona Park "manned" the ship and showered passersby with leaflets describing "life in the Navy".
