There are two open graves, but a priest, possibly Protestant Minister Charles Correvon, stands to the right next to the coffin of the dead officer and leads the service.

- French and Russian prisoners practice a fire drill at the prison camp at Erfurt with the camp's fire engine. Two prisoners man the pumps to the left while the other POW's have run out the hoses. Several German non-commissioned officers supervise the exercise.

- French and Russian cobblers practice their trade at a work bench outside of their workshop at Danzig. These craftsmen provided important services to prisoners who could not work without proper footwear. Apprentices could learn a new trade by working with experienced shoemakers.

- Russian POW's engage in outdoor calisthenics at Zittau (Gross Poritsch) under the watchful eye of German officers to the left by the building. They are conducting stretching exercises. Maintaining physical health was important for both military discipline and healthy troops. Note that the POW's are wearing white identification badges on the left breast pockets of their uniforms.
