- Typewritten letter signed by 38 employees of the Hotel Pontchartrain wishing William D. Purdy (addressed as "Bill") farewell as he leaves his position at the hotel, dated March 16, 1918. The letter is on Hotel Pontchartrain stationery. The letter reads: Mr. William D. Purdy At home Dear "Bill". Some think that in these modern days of hustle and bustle that little times is left for sentiment, and that perhaps sentiment has died out among business associates. We are glad to say that such is not the case in those with whom you have been associated during your long period of service at the Pontchartrain Hotel. In leaving the Pontchartrain you are breaking ties which you perhaps did not suspect existed. We assure you that they do exist--friendship, love, and esteem, and in token of our expression of these sentiments, we ask you to accept these gifts. Think of use once in a while when you use them, and be assured that they are only a small token of our feelings as such feelings cannot be made tangible. We all wish you success in your new connection, and know that wherever you are, or with whom you are associated, you will command the same feelings of respect in which you have always been held by us. Wishing you good health, long life, and continued prosperity, we are saying au revoir, Your sincere friends

Purdy's raises and promotions between 1907 and 1901 while he was employed as the hotel's wine steward, assistant auditor, and storekeeper. The envelope was addressed to William D. Purdy, and postmarked July 29, 1907. The notes read: Wine Steward @ 60 per month with increase accepted Aug 1st 1907 Started to work Oct 1st raised $70 per mo. - Half-folded luncheon menu from the Hotel Pontchartrain, dated Saturday, October 20, 1917. A disclaimer on the cover cautions that the management declines responsibility to damage to clothing caused by accidents in the dining room. A note about the departure times for the Detroit and Cleveland Navigation Company's passenger steamers from the Third Avenue Dock to Cleveland and Buffalo is included within.

A sign reads, "Canadian Pacific". Printed on verso: Pontchartrain Hotel and Hammond Building, Detroit, Mich. This View of Campus Martius shows the Hotel Pontchartrain. Soldiers and Sailors Monument built in 1881 at a cost of $70,000. The red building at right is the Hammond Building. The electric sign on top of building is one of the finest in the west and when in action gives a description of the famous Chariot Race of Ben Hur. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Aug 10, 1911.

- Menu from the Annual Banquet of the Association of the Survivors of the First Michigan Infantry held at the Russell House on June 27, 1905, the 43rd anniversary of the Battle of Gaines's Mill. The menu consists of a half-folded sheet of paper bound with red, white, and blue ribbon and white cord in a half-folded piece of beige cardstock. The cover is printed with portrait photographs of General Ira C. Abbott, and Major George C. Hopper, beneath a red cross pattée. In addition to meal options, the menu also lists a series of toasts, as well as the words to the poem "The Last Grand Rally: Then and Now" by J.W. Walsh. An image of an American flag surrounded by an embossed gold border is on the back cover.

- Ribbon-bound menu and program booklet for Thanksgiving dinner at the Hotel Cadillac, held on November 28, 1895. The cover is off-white paper with hand-painted lavender and white flowers, and with a ivory-colored ribbon threaded through it diagonally terminating in a bow. The interior pages are printed on cardstock. A list of dishes offered is on the first page. The Swart Brothers are listed as the proprietors at the bottom of the page. A list of musical selections and dances to be performed is on the following page. "1895," is printed on the back cover in a decorative script.
