Notes:
United States Light-House Establishment journal noting vessels passing the South Pierhead Light, South Haven, Michigan, from July 1, 1878 to June 30, 1882, recorded by the lighthouse keeper James S. Donahue. Commander J.N. Miller of the U.S. Navy, the Inspector, 11th District. Later, Commander J.C. Watson of the U.S. Navy, the Inspector. Contains Donahue's notations for the barges, brigs, sloops, schooners, and steamers entering in and leaving South Haven. In addition to vessels, it includes information on weather conditions. The journal measures 8 1/4 x 13 1/4 inches, 48 pages, marble boards. It includes one page of entries for each month, with daily totals.
