- Dr. George Eyster, DVM, describes his forty-four year career in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. Eyster recalls his farm upbringing, his journey to veterinary medicine and MSU, the evolution of the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine and his role in creating one of the strongest veterinary cardiology programs in the country. Eyster also discusses his pioneering work in veterinary medicine, the major changes in the field during his career, his fondness for MSU and his colleagues and the various leadership roles he played during his career. Part of the Michigan State University Faculty Emeriti Association Oral History Project.

- Dr. George Eyster, DVM, talks about his career in veterinary cardiology and developing surgical techniques and conducting research at Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Eyster talks about his mentors at MSU and developing open heart surgery procedures for animals, while at the same time, ground breaking procedures for humans were also being developed. He also describes sharing facilities with the College of Human Medicine at MSU, techniques used for both human and animal surgery, and cooperative programs with hospitals such as Ingham Medical in Lansing, Michigan. Eyster comments on changes in veterinary medicine, the decline in veterinary cardiac care, and how the animal rights movement has affected the availability of animals for research. - Prescott describes many of the challenges the profession and the MVMA faced during his tenure, including mandatory continuing education for veterinarians and a failed attempt to develop an accreditation program. He also talks about some of the people with whom he served, including the first woman president of the association, Mary Beth Leininger, the ever increasing number of female veterinarians, the close ties between the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the MVMA, tracking legislation which could have an unintended impact on veterinarians, and dealing with animal welfare laws. The interviewer is Dr. Jan Krehbiel, MSU Professor of Veterinary Medicine Emeritus, for the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association oral histories.
