- Black and white photo of the exterior of the Detroit Edison Company office on the southeast corner of Washington Boulevard and State Street, as taken from an elevated position to the northwest. A large flag is flown from the building's roof. An Albert A. Albrecht Company, Builders sign is posted on a construction canopy over the sidewalk along the office's State Street face. Signs for shoe repair and jewelry stores are posted on the Sun Building, beside Detroit Edison along State. The edge of the Cadillac Hotel, to the south of Detroit Edison along Washington, is visible along the right edge of frame. Cars, pedestrians, and streetcar rails are visible in the streets below. "General Office - Detroit Edison War Flag Raising," and "M-5237 4-6-17." are printed along the bottom edge of the image.

One of the unique features of Detroit in winter is the famous ice fountain on Washington Boulevard. Several jets of water are allowed to play all winter, and the result is a massive berg of ice which sometimes reaches a height of nearly thirty feet and contains many tons of crystal. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Feb 21, 1915.
