- Knapp's department store is on the left or south side of West Washtenaw Street. Hurd's men's clothing on the right, north side. Michigan National Bank's Drive-In branch is seen at 231-233 South Capitol Avenue. Across South Capitol is Gregory Mayer & Thom office supply at 234 and Hilding office supply at 228 South Capitol Avenue. Behind them is the YWCA located at 217 Townsend Street. - Located on the west side of the 10 block of South Washington Avenue. This branch of Kresge's was at 114 South Washington Avenue. Another branch store of Kresge's was at 216 South Washington Avenue. City Planning Division staff trimmed two photographs for assembly into this composite view. The images do not match perfectly; the photos were taken at different times as shown by the different automobiles showing in each. City Planning Division staff placed sequential numbers at the bottom of each piece: "B11" and "B12".

- Looking north, shops are clearly seen beginning with the Lerner Shops at 226, the Belilo Gift Shop at 224, Walgreen Drugs at 220-222, S. S. - Looking south on sidewalk. To the east, across South Washington Avenue is Arbaugh's department store at 401-423. Best view in this collection of Arbaugh's several units: main store, garden center, and housewares center. On the west side of the street, signs are seen for Morrissey's Factory Outlet shoes at 406 and Capitol Fur at 408 South Washington Avenue. Highlights include Small's Mens Shop at 211, Brook's Mens Shop at 209, the Foo Ying Cafe on the upper level at 207 1/2 - 209 1/2, Daniel's Jewelry Co. at 205 and Bosch jewelers at 201. - Both sides of Washington Avenue are seen in this photo taken across East Allegan Street, looking to the north. Several additional blocks can be seen to the north across Michigan Avenue, particularly the Bank of Lansing at 103 North Washington Avenue and the Tussing building at 106 West Ottawa Street. Of note on the west side of South Washington Avenue are the vacant storefront at 100, the Holly Lansing Grill at 104, Baker Shoes at 106, and S. S. Kresge department store at 114 South Washington Avenue. On the east side at right, the Morgan's Jewelers sidewalk clock, the Planters Peanuts sign of The Peanut Shop, and Rouser Rexall Drugs store.
