- Stanford University history professor Estelle Freedmen delivers a talk entitled "Redefining rape : sexual violence in the era of suffrage and segregation." Freedman explores the efforts of both women's rights and racial justice advocates who have tried to change legal and cultural constructions of sexual violence in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Her talk revolves around the following three points: the historically fluid concept of rape, rape's relationship to citizenship, and the particular historical context in which legal changes have occurred as well as their limits.

Wade van Valkenburg argues in favor of the tax, claiming that it targets people who use the roads and will benefit most from their improvement, while Kalamazoo attorney and CIO representative Justin Brocado argues that the legislature should have adopted Gov. G Mennin "Soapy" Williams' plan to increase corporate taxes in combination with a smaller increase in the gas tax to fund road improvement.

Obama says that the act upholds the American principles of equal access, equal opportunity and independence.

Just two months after the September 11th terrorist attacks Brin suggests that a "Devil's dilemma" has been foisted on the American public which falsely suggests that people must choose between security and freedom. Brin describes the new "security society" of surveillance, search and restriction. He says the tradeoff is neither necessary nor real. Brin answers questions from the audience.
