- Sepia-toned photo mounted on a black cabinet card with gold trim bearing an image taken during the 1891 National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Detroit. A triumphal arch has been erected over Woodward Avenue, between John R Street and Witherell Street with several flags displayed on top and on both its piers. A pair of streetcar tracks extend from the camera toward the horizon, and a horse-drawn streetcar passes under the arch, approaching the camera. The buildings along Woodward, including the store of C.W. Maynard, Druggist, are draped with flags and striped banners. "Woodward Ave. Detroit. Arch erected for G.A.R. meet there. City crowded. I'm Lisbon, Ohio, returned to Detroit right after this reunion of Grand Army of the Republic (Civil War veterans)" handwritten on verso.

- Description:
- Sepia-toned cabinet card depicting a snow-covered view of Woodward Avenue near Gratiot Avenue, plus two black and white 8" x 10" copies. A freestanding sign for J. Younghusband, Dental Rooms is in the foreground. A horse-drawn sleigh heads away along Woodward, while another, loaded with boxes, is stopped on the opposite side of the street, in front of the Godfrey Block. On that side of Woodward signs are posted for Wheeler and Wilson's Viewing Machinery, L.P. Durkee, William Bond Furniture, a Singer sewing machine store, J.M. Arnold and Co. Books and Stationery, Butterick's Patterns, Gibbs Books and Stationery, Gilmore, a dentist, a sewing notions store, Freedman and Bros. Dry Goods and Millinery, and the Weber Furniture Company Warehouse. Several pedestrians are also on the street. The bottom of the card is printed with "C.C. Randall, Randall Studio Building, Detroit, 106 Miami Ave." "Woodward Ave." has been added in pencil. Verso contains explanation of dating based on Randall's address in pencil.

Pedestrians walk along the sidewalk neighboring the avenue. Commercial buildings are adjacent to the thoroughfare, including the Hotel Hofman, an automobile is parked in front of the hotel. A sign reading "Allen 1891," is incorporated into the building's brickwork below its cornice. A pharmacy, music store, restaurant, and a tobacconist are visible in adjacent storefronts. Several pedestrians are on the sidewalk. "July 1891, Mrs. R.W. Allen's Hair Shop," is handwritten on the verso.
