Notes:
Relief showing the god Serapis. Limestone; 3.5 cm h., 8.6 cm w., 14 cm l. (Karanis Revealed, Wilfong).; Light brown, fine-grained limestone. Signs of burning. Chips on beard, crown, tunic and right arm. Missing left hand, top of staff, and body below chest. Serapis enthroned in frontal, hieratic pose. Serapis holds upright staff in raised left arm. Right arm reaches toward Cerberus (see Kelsey no. 8521). Incised meander border on three sides of plaque. Serapis wears short sleeved tunic with banded edges and incised striations. Short-cropped beard and think hair abstractly rendered with short incisions. Cylindrical crown extends slightly above upper edge of relief and is incised with seven pointed star flanked by two horizontal V-shaped designs. Long nose ends at small open mouth with upturned corners.
