Gates of Rome - Porta Ostiensis, now di S. Paolo, Corridor with Parapet and Battlements, Theodoric, AD 500. This Gateway-fortress [Nos. 51-55] of the year 500 is remarkably perfect, and very interesting. It is probably the earliest example of a Gatehouse, or Gateway-Fortress, that we have remaining anywhere.
