Herman Miller Vanity

Description:
This Vanity, in the collection of the Newark Museum, consists of an asymmetrical carcase consisting of a plain veneered box with space for knees. The back panel is inlaid with vertical stripes contrasting with dark grain of rosewood. On the sinister side are three suspended bow-fronted laminated veneered drawers, each with a circular concave mat brass pull. These drawers are centered on the sinister upright, and seem to float suspended about the floor. The Body has a deep glass shelf behind which are four hinged compartments of graduated depth. This piece bears a label in ensuite chest of drawers from B. Altman Label. This indicates that it was manufactured before 1939. There is a stencil on the back with the product number in black, "3770". This suggests a design date of 1937. A modern circular beveled glass mirror was purchased to accompany this on display at the Newark Museum. Herman Miller Trade Name: Vanity Herman Miller Series: Suite 3770 Product Number: 3770
