Sepia-toned photo showing the old M.C.R.R. railroad swing bridge being removed

Description:
Photograph. Sepia-toned photo showing the old M.C.R.R. railroad swing bridge being removed. The view looks northwestward across the Rouge River and shows the old bridge being loaded onto barges. It appears that two barges had been partially filled with water in order to lower their freeboard elevations. The barges were then moved under the old bridge and are now being pumped out as seen by the steam-powered pumps that are operating on both barges. As the pumping continues, the rising barges will lift the old bridge off of its foundation so that it can be towed away. Many workmen are standing on the old bridge and on the two barges.
