Rome; Lamps; Clay (unfired)

Notes:

Fine pinkish buff micaceous clay; unglazed. Nozzle with straight end and concave sides. On neck, three small stamped circles and above, five short parallel grooves ending in small circles at top and straight groove at bases. Center groove is longer and extends to small circle in angle of V-shaped groove which separates plain rim from slightly concave discus with central filling hole. Two ends of V end in small stamped circles. Pierced vertical handle which rises from top opposite handle and at right angles to lamp axis is broken. On plain base following outline of lamp is incised: Bic (iri) Agat (hopi). Slightly blackened about wick hole.
