Dr. Dale Faunce and Dr. Russell Seibert, WMU faculty, placing a doctoral hood on Dr. E. Gifford Upjohn as he receives honorary Doctor of Laws degree at WMU June Commencement 1964. A cropped version of the photograph appeared in the Western Michigan University Magazine, Vol. 22 No. 3. Dr. E. Gifford Upjohn served as a director of the National Citizens Committee of the World Health Organization and as national chairman of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Association. He served on the Governor's Citizen's Committee on Higher Education, was a member of the Kalamazoo County Board of Supervisors, the City Commission, was president of the Kalamazoo Community Chest and was president of the Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine. He was chairman of the board of the Upjohn Company of Kalamazoo.
