lamp; Rome; Lamps; Ceramic; Glaze
- Notes:
- Pale buff clay with reddish-brown glaze. Rounded nozzle flanked by double volutes, do not encroach on rim. Slit-shaped air hole at base of nozzle. Grooved rim. In center of discus, eagle, wings spread, his left claw raised, head turned to his left. Ring handle with triangular attachment decorated with palmette pattern; small part of adjoining back, rim and discus have been mended and cemented on lamp. May not belong to this lamp but is of the right type. Slightly raised base set off by circular groove. Short raised line in center of base. Clay of handle and attachment seems a little darker, glaze is almost gone but seems to have been redder in places than anywhere else on lamp.
