Karanis; Textiles; Wool
- Notes:
- This rectangular fragment (a patch?) consists of four pieces of plain-woven wool. One piece is a larger rectangle. Three smaller fragments of the same fabric have been sewn to it. The two smallest pieces were sewn on at right angles. The dimensions given above reflect overall rectangular shape rather than warp and weft directions. The warp for all pieces is brown/gold. One of the small fragments has brown/gold weft. The others have brown/gold weft and large areas of purple weft. There is a ribbed selvedge along one edge of the largest piece. This piece may have been a patch for the rest of the fabric. The other three edges (besides the selvedge) are turned over and hemmed.
