Description:
Mounted enlargement of a black and white print depicting a north-facing view from the intersection of Griswold Street and Jefferson Avenue (as indicated on verso) in 1837, taken from page 457 of Silas Farmer's History of Detroit and Wayne County and Early Michigan. A horse-drawn wagon, pedestrians, and dogs are in the streets. Several storefronts have been given legible signs: "F. and C.H. Buhl," " McCormick and Moon, Hats and Caps," St. Paul's Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Ste. Anne's Catholic Church are all visible in the background. "Copyright 1883 by Silas Farmer" printed in lower left corner. An illegible signature, presumably that of the artist William A. Raymond, is printed at the lower right. Image is mounted on heavy green cardstock.

Description:
Black and white print of a lithograph depicting a view of Detroit from the Detroit River in 1794, taken from page 367 of Silas Farmer's The History of Detroit and Michigan. In the 1889 book, the citadel, then-present Wayne Street, Ste. Anne's Catholic Church, the old council house, the brig GENERAL GAGE, and Griswold Street are labeled below from left to right. In addition to the GAGE, a pair of smaller sailboats and a canoe are in the foreground. "S. Farmer" is printed in the lower left, and a blacked out signature is printed in the lower right. "Insert from Collot map, 1796" and "From the original painting in Paris" handwritten on verso.

Pedestrians are seen crossing the street, walking along the sidewalk, and in front of the neighboring structures. Automobiles are parked in front of the Chamber of Commerce on the right side of the image. Also, construction is taking place on the Miles Theater; other commercial businesses are also visible in the background. Written on the verso, "Miles Theater, 1220-1222 Griswold, under construction, opened May 15, 1910."

Description:
Print containing three engravings, taken from the booklet, Souvenir of Detroit & Exposition, depicting sites in downtown Detroit. The top is captioned "Jefferson Avenue south from Woodward." A streetcar, perpendicular to the tracks is in the center of the road. "James Nall, Carpets" is printed on a building on right side of the street. Set into this image is one of the Chamber of Congress within a frame drawn to resemble a piece of paper hung with nails. The bottom image is captioned, "Griswold Street from Jefferson Avenue." The Campau Block on the west side of Griswold and the Newberry and McMillan Building on the east side are both labeled. A moonlight tower and the spire of City Hall are both visible in the background. Pedestrians and horse-drawn carriages are in the street.

Signs are posted along the street of businesses which include Baird and West Brokers, Importers, and Manufacturers Agents, Van Leyen and Hensler Photo-Etching, Designing, and Wood Engraving, and a Postal Telegraph Office. The electric Myrtle streetcar is visible in the center of the photo, sharing the street with pedestrians and horse carriages. A moonlight tower rises above the intersection with East Larned Street.

Description:
Black and white photographic print on slightly beige paper depicting the corner of Griswold Street and West Fort Street as viewed facing south, taken during the 1891 National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Detroit. The Hammond Building is on the left edge of the frame, and is wrapped in banners, hung with flags, and has a portrait of Ulysses S. Grant hung just above street level. The Moffat Building is also wrapped in banners and has a large "welcome" banner that is hung above its entrance. On the far right side of the image, a portion of one of the triumphal arches erected during the encampment is visible. Pedestrians, a pair of horse carriages, and a horse-drawn streetcar marked "Boulevard and Fort Wayne" are in the foreground.
