- Looking south on sidewalk. To the east, across South Washington Avenue is Arbaugh's department store at 401-423. Best view in this collection of Arbaugh's several units: main store, garden center, and housewares center. On the west side of the street, signs are seen for Morrissey's Factory Outlet shoes at 406 and Capitol Fur at 408 South Washington Avenue. - Northwest corner. The north side of West Allegan Street is shown from South Washington Avenue to South Capitol Avenue. Buildings include Hollister Building, Elks Home, and Michigan National Bank Tower (Boji Tower). Woolworth's, on the southwest corner is also seen.

- Looking north, shops are clearly seen beginning with the Lerner Shops at 226, the Belilo Gift Shop at 224, Walgreen Drugs at 220-222, S. S. Kresge at 216, Barker's Shoe Store at 214 and Carl's Shoe Store at 212 South Washington. City Planning Division staff cut out part of the photo to be composited with other photos.

- Both sides of Washington Avenue are seen in this photo taken across East Allegan Street, looking to the north. Several additional blocks can be seen to the north across Michigan Avenue, particularly the Bank of Lansing at 103 North Washington Avenue and the Tussing building at 106 West Ottawa Street. Of note on the west side of South Washington Avenue are the vacant storefront at 100, the Holly Lansing Grill at 104, Baker Shoes at 106, and S. S. Kresge department store at 114 South Washington Avenue. On the east side at right, the Morgan's Jewelers sidewalk clock, the Planters Peanuts sign of The Peanut Shop, and Rouser Rexall Drugs store. - The Knapp's building was "Knapp's Office Centre" from the 1980s to about 2000. The parking attendant booth is at Washtenaw Street end of the 200 block of South Washington Avenue, it was removed in 1989. Although the J. C. Penney department store building can been seen, no other stores are identifiable in the photo and it is unlikely that Penney's was still in operation at the time of the photo.
