- Description:
- So called "Governor's Mansion" built by the State around 1857. No governor ever lived in the residence. It was originally located on the southeast corner of Capitol Avenue and Allegan Street, as shown in this photograph. The home was purchased by architect Edwin Bowd in 1923 and moved to 2003 West Main Street, after which time extensive remodeling was done. A lengthy history of the home appears in the Lansing "State Journal," November 24, 1933, page 20. Three copies.

- Built in 1886, located on the corner of Allegan and Townsend streets. From a Lansing "State Republican" article of October 15, 1886, about the home: "The masonry was done by Chittenden, the building by Fuller & Wheeler, and the painting by Voiselle and Larose. Most of the timber used in the structure was taken from Mr. Moores' pine lands in Northern Michigan."

- The home on the left is the Harry Turner Residence located at 313 West Allegan. It was built in 1900 and demolished in 1932. The home on the right is the George Keith Residence located at 315 West Allegan. It was built in 1898 and demolished in 1932. Darius B. Moon was the architect for both homes.

Photo b shows Allegan Street looking east, including the Board of Water and Light "Electricity" sign, Dino's Fine Foods Steak Restaurant, and other businesses. Photo c shows a parking lot on the corner of Allegan Street. Photo d is looking west on Michigan Avenue from the intersection with Grand Avenue. Consumer's Power Co., American Bank & Trust, Barker Fowler Appliances, and other businesses can be seen.
