- Photos, newspaper clippings, and correspondence of the Preuss and Kopietz families. Gustav Carl Kopietz (1891-1977) was the proprietor of G.C. Kopietz Groceries and Meats Market and Frank C. Preuss (1870-1933) was proprietor at Frank Preuss Meat Market, known as Star Market. Gus Kopietz served as an honorary casket bearer at Frank Preuss' son's (Frank A. Preuss) funeral in 1974. Gustav Kopietz was born in Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1909 and married Minnie Ida Kleaver in 1914. Minnie was born in Michigan, but her mother was from Germany. Gustav and Minnie had 3 children, Helen, Gladys, and Erwin. Gustav's nephew, Otto Szepanek also lived with the family and worked in the meat shop. Kopietz Market was located at 1133 N. Washington Ave. The family lived at 1222 N Grand River Ave. Frank C. Preuss was also born in Germany and immigrated in 1889. He married Hannah Morofsky in 1895. Hannah was born in Germany in 1879 and immigrated in 1880. They had 6 children, Frank A., Marie, Clara, Harold, Hazel, and Elizabeth. Star Market was located at 308 E Grand River Ave. The family lived at 1125 North Washington Ave.
