- Violence erupts between auto workers during the strike against Ford Motor Company. "On April 1, 1941, Ford fired eight workers at the Ford plant for union activity, word spread throughout the Ford empire, and slowly 50,000 workers stopped working, the first Ford strike had begun, on April 10, Henry Ford reluctantly agreed to permit a vote on the union issue, the workers voted overwhelmingly for a union, the UAW drew up an agreement setting the conditions between workers and the company, but Ford refused to sign, finally, Mrs. Ford stepped in, tired of all the fighting and turmoil, she told her husband to sign the agreement or she would leave him, Ford realized that his stubbornness would cost him a lot more than money, Ford and the workers signed the agreement and the triumphant Ford employees returned to work," from Great Auto Makers and Their Cars, by Bob Italia.

- Men gather outside the Dodge plant in Detroit, Michigan during sit-down strike, one man stands next to a picket sign which reads, Welcome sheriff, we are here to stay." "...the Chrysler strike lacked the fireworks of Flint, planning for it was so open that even corporation officials knew when and where the strike would begin, but they also knew they could do nothing to prevent it, when Dick Frankensteen phoned John Zaremba inside the Dodge Main plant with the order to launch the strike, Zaremba raised his hand in an arranged signal and the shop stewards shut down the plant, within five minutes not a machine or assembly line stirred, again a substantial minority, acting with the sympathy and passive support of the majority halted the operations of one of the industry's giants, perhaps as many as 15,000 of Chrysler's workforce of 67,000 were UAW members when the strike began and about 6,000 were active strike participants," from "American Vanguard: The United Auto Workers During the Reuther Years, 1935-1970," by John Barnard.

- 8x10 black and white photograph from glass negative of mud-spattered 1905 Packard Model N with five males in goggles and work clothes. Inscribed on photo back: 4-cylinder, 28-horsepower, 106-inch wheelbase, 5-person touring car, non-standard "N" body. Note that the top edge of the body following line of the door for a distance aft of the door before curving up to follow the line of the rear seat, whereas this line on the standard "N" body curved up immediately aft of the tonneau door. Note: special spot light mounted on dash at left & resultant missing left side light. Doubtless the occupants were Packard personnel and were conducting a test run.

"At precisely 1:30 p.m. on Monday, 8 March 1937, thousands of factory workers at nine Chrysler plants in the Detroit area simultaneously walked out of their workplaces or sat down in the factories, the well-planned sit-down strike continued until 25 March, when the workers evacuated the plants, Chrysler operations remained shut down until two weeks later, when the Chrysler Corporation signed an agreement with the United Automobile Workers of America-CIO (UAW)," from Riding the Roller Coaster: A History of the Chrysler Corporation, by Charles K.
