- Oral history interview with Caroline Mullen Kearney conducted by Thomas Coyne on August 11, 1995. Caroline was an international student from Ireland during the 1980’s and came to WMU on a track athletic scholarship. She recounts how she came to Western after a year at Lamar Institute of Technology in Beaumont, TX. She also gives a brief overview of her athletic background in Ireland and the various titles she won as a WMU athlete. She goes on to discuss her academic program at Western and the difficulty in getting her degree recognized in Ireland. She recounts her support from WMU and from various faculty members and administrators. She also discusses some of her favorite professors, her reactions to the WMU campus as an international student as well as the reactions of some American students to her and her country. and Tape summaries only. - Receipts by P.O., 1805. 61 pages of handwritten recipes plus 6pp. index. 19 x 16 cm., original notebook of half green vellum, marbled paper covered boards originally sold by Rowe, Stationer of Temple Bar. 95 cookery recipes and a few for the household. Brewing recipes include one for 54 gallons of beer with 5 bushels of malt. There are recipes for dishes done in a unique preparation, like potted lobster, seed cake, custard, puff paste, force meat balls, onion soup, turtle soup with oysters. Other recipes include "Allamode Beef," "Busbridge Puddings," preserved Barberries, a fish sauce with horseradish and sweet herbs, India pickle, stewed cucumbers, walnut ketsup, Carrack using Indian Soy, Nun’s Biscuits, solid syllabubs, herb soup, and "Woodlark’s Paste."

- Document was folded five times and severaly worn with several holes along folds., Ball-shaped “pendant” seal, attached, and made of red wax, on parchment tag bearing the device of a winged heart., Front of a seal attached to the indenture document of Samuel Ladd of Chartham, Kent, England to Thomas Jackson of the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral for ₤400 and messuage, including cottage, two gardens, two orchards, and three acres of land in Chartham. Ball-shaped, red wax seal bearing the device of a winged heart., and Written in England and dated 8 April, 11 Charles I (1635). Four inscriptions on the dorse: two in an English secretary hand similar to the main text and two in a later crusive hand; the name of Elizabeth Ladd is mentioned along with the names Edward Nordey (sp?) and Godfrey Pyard (sp?). Formerly Phillipps no. 31801; the number “31801” located in center of dorse. Gift of the Department of History, Western Michigan University to WMU Special Collections in 1999.

A 5-line flourished intial “T” opens the text., Indenture (mortgage) between John and Elizabeth Raymond, Essex and Dorothy Collard of Barnstone, Essex for ₤350 to John and Elizabeth Raymond for conveyance of capital massuage, Chelmshoes house and barns, stables, dove house [etc.] and lands in great Maplest[de?] and Deetingthorp [sp?], Essex. Containing 66 acres. Name of John Richardson mentioned. Two red-wax, impressed seals (design not visible), each stamped on tags., Written in clear mixed hand (secretary and italic conflations). Opening words and later, emphasized in larger bastard anglicana script. Pricking in both margins., and Written in England, county of Essex and dated 25 August 2 James II. At middle center in the near-contemporary hand, “15/18 [?] | Mr and Mrs Raymond | to | Mrs Collard} Release” and three illgible words in a near contemporary hand followed by “1686.” Also at the middle center of dorse in a later hand: “9.” Gift of the Western Michigan University Department of History to Special Collections in 1999.
