- A French band of stringed instruments (three violins, one cello, a guitar, a mandolin, and a banjo) plays a tune near the compound fence at Koenigsbrueck. At least three of the instruments were self-made by the prisoners in the camp. Skilled carpenters could produce musical instruments to provide entertainment for the war prisoners.

- Prisoners of war at Friedrichsfeld display their handicraft work at an exposition. Their work includes drawings, paintings, model airplanes and ships, the Eifel Tower, toys, chests, a violin, and a wide range of other projects. Prisoners often made some money by selling their handicrafts when these expositions traveled to neutral countries.

- A French prisoner plays his self-made cello in the theater at Grafenwoehr. Prisoners often exhibited their ingenuity and talents by making their own instruments or by utilizing other inmates with wood carving skills to construct needed musical equipment.

- The American YMCA arranged expositions of prisoner handicrafts and sold these projects to provide POW's with a modest income. The prisoners at Cottbus made these handicrafts, which included baskets, wicker furniture, a violin, a balalaika, hats, spoons, pictures, and other goods that were in demand in prison camps.

- Russian Muslim prisoners display some of the fine handicrafts in the carpentry shop at Zossen-Wuensdorf. The prisoners have carved three street signs (two for Yorkstrasse and one for Lowenfeldstrasse) while a design hangs on the wall. Note the picture of Kaiser Wilhelm II on the back wall to the left.

- German non-commissioned officers inspect the meat while Russian and French prisoners of war stir the soup. The POW's in this unidentified German prison camp built the camp kitchen, which includes intricate wood carvings.

- This colorful wooden Russian soldier raises his hands in surrender; it was built by workers in Vilna in Lithuania, a region of the Russian Empire recently occupied by the German Army.

- French prisoners relax in their barrack at Darmstadt as they enjoy some free time. Many of their belongings hang from the shelf behind them (including clothing and dinner bowls) or on the shelf and rafters (clothing, boots, and food). One prisoner holds a model airplane in his hand while another plane hangs from the ceiling.

- French and Russian enlisted prisoners display their wood working projects for two German officers outside of the main prison building at Wuerzburg. There are examples of airplanes, birds, and a windmill which demonstrated the wood working skills of the prisoners. Captivity in prison provided men with considerable time to practice their hobbies and exhibitions allowed the POW's to show off their abilities.

- Russian prisoners of war work on wood carving and wicker projects outside their workshop in the prison camp at Aschaffenburg under the supervision of German non-commissioned officers. The workers have displayed examples of their handiwork on the table and on shelves, including a chair, baskets, and an ornate house.
