- One promissory note, dated April 6, 1869, that was issued to the Richmond & Backus Company. It was printed in black handwritten text on white paper that has pale red lines. The note terms indicated that "Two years from date, we promise to pay to the order of Richmond & Backus, One Hundred Thirty Five & 27/100 Dollars, with interest at the rate of two percent per annum at T. J. Rand's Bank, Muskegon, Mich., Value received - S. D. Murray, Wm. J. Murray." A ten-cent U.S. Internal Revenue stamp has been affixed to the left side of the note and has black handwritten text that reads "Apr. 6, 1869." The stamp features a blue and white engraved design with a bust of George Washington at the center.

The note was signed by officers of the Gregory, Mayer & Thom Company and was embossed with the company seal. Repayments were recorded in handwritten text on two sheets that are attached with brass rivet-type fasteners.
