- A photograph of the corner of Main Street and University, looking East. Chapman Pond is visible in the distance. Chapman Pond was created when the nearby Western Knitting Mills built a dam in the early twentieth century to power the mill. The pond remained until 1946 when a flood broke the dam and required the pond be filled in. Rochester Hills Public Library and the Royal Park Hotel both stand on top of the old pond. - Description:
- Eva Woodward Parker, a resident of Avon Township during the late 1800s and early 1900s,belonged to a prominent Rochester family. Her father was instrumental in securing a railroad stop in both Detroit and Rochester, while her husband, Arthur S. Parker, owned the Detroit Drug Company. She herself graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Literature. Both she and her husband were known statewide for their gardens. Upon her death in 1933, she donated large portion of her estate to the Avon Township Free Public Library (now the Rochester Hills Public Library). The exact date of this photograph is unknown. Littell Dodge Dealership can be seen to the left of the theater. Based on the movies being shown at the Hills Theater ("Tarzan" and "Blue, White, and Perfect"), it is estimated that this photograph was taken sometime during 1942.
