Printed on verso: Central Avenue, Belle Isle, Detroit, Mich. Belle Isle Park contains about 700 acres and has cost Detroit including bridge leading to it about $2,000,000. It has beautiful lawns and Floral displays, also many miles of driveways and canals. It has a Zoo, Horticultural Building and Aquarium. Refreshments are served at both Casino and Pavillion. It was bought from the Chippewa and Ottawa Indians for eight Barrels of rum, three rolls of tobacco, six pounds of vermillion and a belt of wampum, by Lieutenant Mc Dougall in 1769. In 1879, 110 years afterward it was sold to Detroit for $200,000. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked May 26, 1913.

Printed on verso: Central Avenue, Belle Isle. Detroit's principal recreation spot is an island in the Detroit river connecting with the city by a bridge, 8 feet less than half a mile in length. It comprises 702 acres, is over two miles long and boasts over 20 miles of fine macadam roadway which completely circles and frequently intersects it. A fine zoo, aquarium, horticultural building, swimming and skating pavilions, casino and boat livery are in connection. The City has expended over $1,500,000 on it since its purchase in 1879.
