- A brief introduction to diurnals and a bibliography (1) is followed (2-63) by a list of Cistercian diurnal manuscripts from the early 12th century – the earliest linked to Robert and Stephen Harding–to 1960. The studies noted include numerous addenda in ink. - 16th century gilt-tooled arabesque binding or pasteboard, with small marks on edges of boards where clasps were once attached. Binding damaged., Spine, upper cover and tail of a Book of Hours containing a calendar, gospel readings and litany., and “1542” on last main text leaf perhaps indicating the precise date of the binding.

- Contemporary gilt-ruled calf, worn and repaired with spine gilt on all edges., Spine and upper board of an iconography of the Roman Catholic Church presenting the traditional garbs of eight ecclesiastic posts and thirty-three monastic orders (ten with both female and male members)., and Based on evidence in the text, the iconography includes a monk from Tongerlo Abby near Antwerp, another from Ansewyck near Mechelen, which suggests Beligium as the place of composition. An earlier owner, Cornelia Alstede of Amsterdam, signed her name and address (in Dutch) on the verso of the front free flyleaf and indexed the whole (in French) on the recto and verso of the first leaf. A later owner identififed a handful of the images in blue ink on the black versos. Purchased by Western Michigan University Special Collections from Bruce McKittrick Rare Books, Inc.

- Two different illegible near-contemporary inscriptions in the left margin., Two parchment ties join the two bifolia., 10 line inscription in near-contemporary hand on verso of folio describing the nature of the document. On recto of the first folio: stamp (possibly of Generalite d’Orleans) in black ink, of a heart with three fleur-de-lis, in the middle of the works “Dix Sols De Roole” and in front of two crossed scepters and surmounted by a crown with rays and two bird heads; stamp of “AVG.3S.4D” in black ink immediately above; “House sale at Orleans” and “$20.00” in pencil along the top; two-word, illegible inscription along the top in ink. A stamp identical to the one on folio one recto is located in the top left margin of folio 3 recto., Legal document concerning a dispute between two parties, possibly relating to a harvest, with notorial signature. Name of Bernard mentioned., Written in a 17th century French legal script., and Produced in France, dated 22 Mars 1694 in top left margin of folio 1 recto “Janvier 1694” below the main test on folio 4 and “1694” below inscription on folio 4 verso. Two stamps in black ink on the first folio: the first possibly of Generalite d’Orleans, and the second “AVG.3S.4D”. Numerous marginal inscriptions in near-contemporary hand. Gift of Western Michigan University Department of History to Special Collections in 2005.

- Contemporary binding of tawed leather over beveled wooden boards; marks from a clasp once on edge of front cover; inscription on front cover: Martyrologe de Nangis terres de l’eglise de Nangis; prickings along the outer margin on some leaves, “KL” symbols for each month in large red letters, Register of anniversary days when services are to be performed for the dead open to leaves 38v-39r. Mainly comprised of a calendar which mentions for each day the names of the donors to be honored by a mass, or the names of the relevant saints honored locally. Some of the donors listed have been crossed out, their donation having expired, and other prestigious families such as the Montmorency-Bouchard family, have been respectfully preserved., Written in long lines; ruled in plummet for 24 lines; written in a gothic hand in red and light brown ink with some later entries in black ink by a wide variety of hands; some entries crossed out, and Written in Nangis, France over the period of the late 13th to early 16th centuries. Jointly purchased by Western Michigan University and the Newberry Library in 2007.

- Later inscriptions identifying the manuscript., Housed under glass in a modern, wooden frame (295 x 500 mm), visible on one side only; dealer's prospectus on back., Fourteenth century, French legal complaint brought by King Charles VI, on behalf of the Bishop of the royally founded church in Nevers (Cottineau 2: 2064) for serfs' failure to pay taxes to the church. See bibliographic file for complete transcription, translation, and description., French secretary script (cursiva media), and Written in France and dated 10 May 1386. Inscription in French on the reverse: "complainte en cas de saisine et de nouvellite levesque doyen et chapitre de nevers contre plusieurs hommes des villes nomees en ycelle et est de date du xieme de may lan 1386." - Later inscriptions identifying the manuscript., Housed behind glass in a modern, wooden frame (245 x 345) visible on one side only; dealer's prospectus on back., Fifteenth-century, French charter of Charles the Bold (1433-1477), last reigning Duke of Burgundy, granting a pension to his faithful vassal Ranlequin de Fontaines for wounds he received during military service. The military service probably included Charles' 1475 campaign in Lorraine. The document is signed by Charles and several of his important advisers including the Bishop of Tournai. Other names mentioned include: Master Pierre Bogart, Jehan Ondart, and J. Gros. For complete transcription and translation of this document see bibliographic file., Burgundian Bastard (cursiva media/libraria) script, and Written in Nancy, Duchy of Lorraine (Lothaire), modern day France in 1475. Document must have been written shortly after Charles' capture of Nancy in 1475, which he promptly lost to René II, Duke of Lorraine in 1476. The text reads, "donne en notre ville de nanc_," the rest of the word is cropped, but most likely refers to Nancy. "Copie" written in the same hand along the top; faded pencil inscription along the bottom; scribal inscription, in less formal hand just below text, "Ceste copie a este collotionne aux lesd. Originals par moy" followed by elaborate signature. Purchased by Special Collections, Waldo Library from Mackus Company, Fairlawn Ohio, in July of 2005.
