- Dr. Robert Sargent Shriver Jr. receiving an honorary Doctory of Laws degree at the June 1965 Commencement. Dr. James Miller and Dr. Dale Faunce are standing to either side of Shriver. The photograph appeared in Western Michigan University Magazine Vol. 23 No. 3. Shriver was the driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps, and founded the Job Corps.

- Western State Normal School on Normal Hill (earlier Prospect Hill) from the northeast. View features the Administration Building with the Gymnasium and Training School additions (East Hall) as well as the trolley car. In the foreground are tennis courts. The Administration Building was completed in 1905. Both additions were completed by 1909. The Western State Normal Railroad trolley systems was built in 1907 and operated until 1949.

- Robert Limpus and Frederick Rogers standing in front of books, possibly the departmental library at Western Michigan College. Limpus became a member of the English faculty in 1947 and was appointed head of Basic Studies in 1956. He became Dean of General Studies in 1965 and retired in 1970. Rogers became a member of the English faculty in 1946 and was chair of the Department in 1956 until his retirement in 1971.

The 150-step stairway was one of two ways for students and faculty to reached the buildings on top of Prospect Hill when the Western Trolley opened in 1908.
