- In an oral history interview, Jessie Melis talks about her service as a teacher in occupied Germany from August 1950 to July 1953. She recalls the devastation in German cities, socializing with German citizens, German customs, her living quarters in Munich, taking meals in the officer's mess, her experiences with the black market and the depressed German economy. Melis also talks about meeting former Nazis, the differences between teaching in Germany and the U.S., the differences between American and German students and traveling to Berlin through the Russian Zone. Melis says that she traveled to Palestine and Jerusalem before finally returning to the U.S. to help her family and re-establish her career in East Lansing, MI. Melis is interviewed by Elsie Hornbacher.

- President Obama and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas hold a joint press conference in the West Bank town of Ramallah. Abbas, speaking through an interpreter, expresses hope for peace and an end to occupation with a two state solution. He calls the continued expansion of Israeli settlements illegal. Obama praises the progress in the Palestinian Authority controlled areas and reminds listeners of the monetary support provided by the U.S. He renews a pledge of seeking peace through direct negotiations with the efforts of Secretary of State John Kerry. This is Obama's first trip to Palestine as President.

- U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deliver a joint speech at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Israel. Netanyahu asserts that acts of terrorism like the recent attack in Manchester, England, occur in part because terrorists are rewarded by countries like Palestine and explains that the U.S. and Israel can help broker peace between the Arab nations. Trump sends his condolences to the victims of the terror attack in Manchester and says that all civilized nations must be united in the fight against terror. Trump also says that his administration will always stand with Israel and says that he will help Israel and Palestine achieve peace.

- Michigan State University Professor of Linguistics Dr. Sadam Issa, introduces a screening of the documentary film "Naji al-Ali : an artist with vision." Dr. Issa talks about the life and career of al-Ali, considered the most influential and famous Arab cartoonist, and a Palestinian activist until he was murdered in 1987. Audio from the movie is not included. Dr. Issa answers questions from the audience and talks more about al-Ali's work and the political context. - Israeli photographer Natan Dvir delivers a talk entitled "Getting Closer: Understanding the 'Other.'" Dvir talks about using photography as a means to explore the power of religious and political beliefs. Dvir describes his project entitled "Eighteen" as an "artistic point of contact serving as an invitation to get closer..." Dvir describes the situations in which his photos were captured and what they portray. He explains how he achieved a unique access to Palestinian communities and succeeded in breaking down some barriers. Dvir answers questions from the audience. MSU Librarian Deborah J. Margolis convenes the event. MSU Professor of Journalism Howard Bossen introduces Dvir. Part of the MSU Libraries' Colloquia Series. Held at the MSU Main Library.

- Gladys Welch says she joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps because two of her brothers were in the military and she felt she also needed to serve and that she actually served two "hitches" in the Army. She was first stationed in Iran from 1943 to 1946, during World War II and later reenlisted for service in Europe from 1946 to 1958. Welch recalls the heat in Iran and visiting the Holy Land while on leave and traveling extensively throughout Europe. She says that she did not initially plan on an Army career, but found adjusting to military life to be easy decided to reenlist and serve to retirement. Welch also says that after her discharge, she returned to private nursing and taught psychiatric nursing at Mercy Hospital. Welch is interviewed by Marjorie Brown.
