Banks begins by recalling how his interest in Jazz music developed and his role in establishing a solid Jazz program at MSU. Returning to the grievance process, Banks suggests other administrators who might be potential interviewees. He shares his perspective on the several attempts to organize a faculty union on campus, the complications, the arguments for and against, the competition between AFT and AAUP, areas of support and opposition in the university, and union organizing efforts with other staff and graduate students. Banks reflects on union successes at other universities, the number of different unions trying to organize on campus, and issues with the process of negotiations.
