- Document was folded five times and severaly worn with several holes along folds., First initial “T” enlarged and flourished., Indenture document of Samuel Ladd of Chartham, Kent, England to Thomas Jackson of the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral for ₤400 and messuage, including cottage, two gardens, two orchards, and three acres of land in Chartham. Ball-shaped “pendant” seal, attached, and made of red wax, on parchment tag bearing the device of a winged heart., Written in English secretary script (cursiva libraria). Black ink flaking and nearly illegible in many places., and Written in England and dated 8 April, 11 Charles I (1635). Four inscriptions on the dorse: two in an English secretary hand similar to the main text and two in a later crusive hand; the name of Elizabeth Ladd is mentioned along with the names Edward Nordey (sp?) and Godfrey Pyard (sp?). Formerly Phillipps no. 31801; the number “31801” located in center of dorse. Gift of the Department of History, Western Michigan University to WMU Special Collections in 1999.

- Two different illegible near-contemporary inscriptions in the left margin., Two parchment ties are attached to the bifolium., 4 line inscription on f. 2r after the main text. A black ink stamp comprising a crown and three fleur-de-lis on a shield and vine-stem decoration and words “13S4 Denier Orleans.”, Legal document, possibly an inventory, with a notorial signature., Written in a 18th century French cursive legal script., and Produced in France and dated “6 Avril 1720” in a contemporary hand in the upper left corner on f. 1r. An additional parchment sheet (125 x 150 mm) attached by parchment tag., Inscription in a contemporary hand on the middle dorse: “[illegible word] Eliz ffarmer de Twywill.” Also in the middle center of dorse: “18/15?” in pencil., Front of a will, folded, of Elizabeth of Twywell, bequething seven pounds to son Thomas Farmer to release him from prison and 20 pounds to daughter Alice Farmer and John Farmer, son of Thomas Farther. To Diana, Elizabeth, Catherine, Rebecca, Lydia: 20 pounds and five portions of will. Names also mentioned include John, Mary, Thomas, and William Farmer. Signed in the presence of Thomas Nickallson, Sarah Smith, and Susanna Srigmore. Attached probate is dated 1701 and includes the name of Edward Caldwell. Containing 66 acres. Name of John Richardson mentioned. Two red-wax, impressed seals (design not visible), each stamped on tags., Inscription in upper left, in a different hand, possibly contemporary: “15/18 [?] | Mr and Mrs Raymond | to | Mrs Collard} Release”., and Written in England, county of Essex and dated 25 August 2 James II. - Folded at bottom. A few small worm holes. Attached is a seal tag that was cut from an earlier document of which some of the words are still visible. Attached to the tag is a narrow band formerly used to hold an affiliated claim (MS 156)., Quitclaim by Hugh, son of Simon of Rodes, to Walter son of Walter de Hawesword (Haukesw[o]rd), relinquishing all rights to four acres of land in the field of Rodes [in Menston] which Hugh’s father Simon had given to his brother William. Witnessed by Simon Ward miles (known 1291-1326; Moor 84:155-6), Mathew Burne, Hugh de Berwicke, Walter de Midelton, Simon son of Thomas de Giselay, and Thomas (Francisus?). Note that, with the exception of William, son of Matilda de Haukesw[o]rds, this is the same list of witnesses which appears in a related quitclaim (MS 156)., 1 column of 10 lines ruled in ink in English cursive documentary script., and Written in England, the document concerns lands in Rodes, i.e., Rhodes Green in Menston, NW of Leeds, Yorks WR, near Hawksworth and Guiseley. Dated to the late thirteenth century, or not much later, on paleographic grounds, and on the identification of one of the witnesses, Simon Ward miles (known 1291-1326; Moor 84:155-6). - Eight sheets joined by parchment tie in upper left corner., Eight parchment court rolls, folded, relating to West Hanningfield, Essex, all of which are contemporary with one another and are joined together by a single parchment tie. Extensive damage to the membranes of several rolls with significant loss of text., Written in English secretary script, likely all by the same hand. Ink bleeding through the parchment. Item 1 is written in slightly larger and darker hand with opening words in bastard anglicana., and Written in England, probably in West Hanningfield between 1603 and 1611 (each document has a different date). An additional parchment sheet (135 x 260 mm) is attached by the tag behind the plica., Front of a folded indenture chirograph document (conveyance) of Penelope Warde of Great Dunmow, Essex, widow to Richard Phillips, who was a wheelwright, for ₤10 15s + ₤8 to be paid to her 10s each quarter day with grants of parcels of land in Great Dunmow towards Chelmsford., A 6-line inscription on the dorse in a contemporary hand similar to the main text, “Sealed and... in the presence of...” three signatures follow (illegible except for two “Johns”)., and Written in England, county of Essex and dated 1 December 1659 in document.
