- In this installment of "Welcome to Kalamazoo," Dr. Willis Dunbar profiles the U.S. Navy exhibit appearing in Kalamazoo. The mayor of Kalamazoo, Henry Ford, and the presidents of the Senior and Junior Chambers of Commerce, John Klosterman and Fred Maymer, welcome the exhibit to Kalamazoo. U.S. Naval Officer John Jay Morgan, commander of the exhibit, describes the installation to listeners and talks about some of the exhibit's highlights. Part of the Kalamazoo Valley Museum WKZO Transcription Disc Collection.

- Description:
- Maintenance equipment in the new Station No. 1 machine shop. Out the windows, a truck from the Franklin-DeKleine company can be seen parked between the machine shop and the next building. Franklin-DeKleine was the next building to the south along North Grand Avenue from the fire station. This print has adhesive and moisture damage. Similar photographs appear in the booklet "Lansing Fire Department: Dedicated to the Saving of Life and Property" which was published in approximately 1950. The brochure credits George Beak, Communications Division, and Frank Mainville, Press Photographer, for the photographs in the booklet.

- Russell Alberts talks about working at REO Motor Car Company, in Lansing, MI, from 1928 to 1939. Alberts describes conditions in the plant, his jobs, pay, benefits, and hours, before unionization and the great strides made by workers after the big labor strike of 1937 and the Lansing Labor Holiday. He also talks about the REO Clubhouse, the radio station, REO products and making experimental vehicles for the American military. Alberts' wife, Eva Alberts, describes her work in the REO Navy Department during the war and both discuss an accidental death in the plant and the safety issues which plagued the manufacturer for decades. The interviewer is Shirley Bradley. Recorded as part of the REO Memories oral history project.
