Fire hoses are still spraying the building's entrance and one of its windows on the its Griswold face. Icicles hang from the building's facade, and rubble has settled around its base. A group of people, primarily children, are in the intersection in the foreground. Several of them look toward the camera. A fire engine, and the cloud of smoke coming from it are visible down State Street on the left. The steam cloud of another rises over the intersection of Griswold and Grand River Avenue in the background on the right. The photo is mounted on beige cardstock. "From Alvord & Co. - Mounted sepia-toned photograph taken of a fire engine and a hose apparatus in the intersection of Grand River Avenue, Griswold Street, and Rowland Street (now Shelby Street), behind the ruins of Capitol High School following its fire on January 27, 1893, facing the south. A crowd of spectators have gathered around the steam engine from which a cloud of smoke rises. Firefighers are using hoses to spray both the eastern face of the building along Griswold, and the western one along Shelby in the background. Snow covers the ground, and ice coats the eastern face of the school. Signs for Howard's Sandwichs and Coffee, the Siau Laundering Company, and the Chamber of Commerce are visible along Shelby on the right. The photo is mounted on beige cardstock. "From Alvord & Co. - Black and white photographic print on slightly beige paper depicting the corner of Griswold Street and West Fort Street as viewed facing south, taken during the 1891 National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Detroit. The Hammond Building is on the left edge of the frame, and is wrapped in banners, hung with flags, and has a portrait of Ulysses S. Grant hung just above street level. The Moffat Building is also wrapped in banners and has a large "welcome" banner that is hung above its entrance. On the far right side of the image, a portion of one of the triumphal arches erected during the encampment is visible. Pedestrians, a pair of horse carriages, and a horse-drawn streetcar marked "Boulevard and Fort Wayne" are in the foreground.

- Postcard. Colorized photographic postcard depicting The Ford Building from an elevated position across the corner of Griswold Street and West Congress Street. Streetcars, pedestrians, and cars are visible in the streets. Verso reads, "1393-The Ford Building, Griswold and Congress Streets, is the largest office building in Michigan. It is 19 stories in height, towers 275 feet above the street level, contains 559 offices and cost Edward Ford, of Toledo, its owner, $1,500,000. Its entire front is of enamel terra cotta and it is considered a model of beautiful architecture." Card was mailed and postmark reads, "Detroit, Mich. Oct. 10, 12 -M, 1911."
