- British prisoners collect water at the hand pump so they can wash their clothing in the large outdoor tubs at Limburg. When the weather was warm, prisoners could launder their uniforms outdoors. The barracks where they ate and slept stand behind them.

- A British prisoner of war is buried in the cemetery at Limburg with full military honors, which included a German band and a Landsturm honor guard. While his comrades lower the casket into the grave, German officers stand at attention to the right. Civilians from Limburg, to the left, also attended the burial service.

- After capture, German prison camp administrators sent a post card with limited information (indicating whether the prisoner was sound, wounded, or ill) to a relative. Normally, such correspondence would have traveled post free through the international mails, but this post card received a British stamp when the card was forwarded from London to Illinois. The prisoner was an American volunteer in the Royal Flying Corps. Note the card originated at the prison camp at Limburg-an-der-Lahn and the addressee is instructed not to write back to the prisoner at that site. Limburg was a Durchgangslager (transfer camp) and some POW's remained at Limburg for only a short time before transfer to a permanent camp (Stammlager).

- British prisoners scrub down the camp laundry at Limburg under the command of German guards. The stoves connected to the chimney heat water which is usually used by the POW's to wash their clothing inside this facility.

- A British prisoner of war adds a shovel load of coal to the fire which heats the stove where other British POW's prepare a meal under the direction of a German non-commissioned officer. The amount of soup prepared in the kitchen at Limburg is reflected in the size of the ladle and stirrer held by the prisoners. Meals had to be mass produced to meet the nutritional requirements of prison camps three times a day.
