- Description:
- This collection contains two patient account ledgers from the medical practice of Dr. J. S. North of Lansing, Michigan, and one autograph book belonging to Louisa Buck North. The first ledger's records date from 1895 to 1902, and includes an incomplete index of patient names at the beginning. The second ledger's records date from 1896 to 1911 and also contains a name index at front. Generally the records are for a head of household, and each entry may specify which family member or resident was treated. Treatment details are sparse, usually explained as "Visit & med." with the cost of service. Sometimes the entries are for services or products Dr. North obtained, such as threshing or lumber. Louisa Buck North's autograph book mostly records her farewell from New York state in 1841, when she left for "the wilds of Michigan."
