- Description:
- This collection consists primarily of a scrapbook belonging to Theodosia Wiest Milkton, the daughter of state Supreme Court judge Howard Wiest and Cora Newman Wiest. The scrapbook contains portraits of Theodosia and her family and friends, class pictures from the Walnut Street school, pictures from the art school she attended on the east coast, newspaper clippings (mostly about Judge Wiest), school programs and memorabilia, and other bits of glued in ephemera. The Wiests built a large home with several outbuildings that they named "Shagbark" in Williamston. The collection also contains a few folders of loose snapshots of Shagbark, unidentified people, an unidentified brick row house perhaps in Baltimore, and dogs.

- Description:
- This collection contains a National Honor Society certificate for Louise Goodell (1939), a file of loose newspaper clippings about the Lansing Fire Department from the 1940s, and four scrapbooks. The scrapbooks, which consist almost entirely of newspaper clippings, date from approximately 1913 to 1952, with the majority of the contents being from the 1940s. The theme of the clippings is primarily the Lansing Fire Department, fires in Lansing and the surrounding communities, and sometimes national or Michigan fire-related material. Other themes and materials included are: the John Bean Company; the new Lansing central fire station at Shiawassee and Grand streets (Station No. 1) built in 1949; the 1951 state office building fire (the building later known as the Cass Building); a few souvenir fire department postcards, snapshots, and patches; and a few memorial programs from funerals for fire fighters and their spouses.

- Description:
- Donated to the Mason branch of the Capital Area District Libraries in 2006 by Eugene G. Wanger in memory of his father-in-law, Leslie Dana Morris, and mother-in-law, Mabel Rebecca Morris, this collection comprises the majority of Mr. Wanger's personal library of books, manuscripts, and ephemera pertaining to the history of Ingham County, Michigan. Leslie Dana Morris, son of Stephen Arnold Morris and Lida Ellen Couples, was born March 1, 1894, in Logan County, Ohio. He later moved to Eden, Michigan, where he farmed until 1960 when he and his wife relocated to Mason, Michigan. L. D. Morris also spent time as an employee of both REO and the John Bean Company. He died on May 6, 1985. Mabel Rebecca Robinson Morris was born April 2, 1905, near Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Rodman and Mary Robinson, but grew up in Shannon County, Missouri. She graduated from the Birch Tree High School and was a teacher at a country school for two years. On February 24, 1928, she married L. D. Morris. She began university studies at Michigan State University as a freshman at age 48, and eventually received her degree. Mrs. Morris taught elementary education at the Rolfe, Robbins, and Steele Street Elementary Schools before retiring in 1968. She died on July 9, 1992. Eugene G. Wanger, a local attorney, co-chair of the Michigan Committee Against Capital Punishment, author of "Why We Should Reject Capital Punishment," and a Delegate to the State of Michigan Constitutional Convention in 1961, assembled this collection over a period of more than 60 years. His Ingham County Historical Collection contains his personal bibliography of books found in his 2003 publication "Discovering Ingham County." The majority of the collection was acquired by Mr. Wanger. However, the collection includes both published and unpublished material created by Mr. Wanger himself. There are books, maps, atlases, newspapers, reports, small press publications, and ephemera. His 2003 Ingham County bibliography is a sequel to his 1977 publication "Ingham County Histories: An Annotated Bibliography for Students, Buffs, and Collectors." The donor's 11 original series titles and organization have been maintained, although materials have been boxed based on size and fragility. Select items have been digitized in some of the series and are available online. A significant addition to this collection was transferred by Mr. Wanger to CADL in early 2018 and has been added as the 12th series. Although most of the items in this addition are numbered, they do not correspond to numbers in the 2003 Ingham County bibliography. Several of the items are fragile. Most of the publications in this collection are also available as circulating and/or reference copies in the Capital Area District Libraries system. Contact the Mason library to access the collection.

- This truck was designed by Irving L. Stoney and Albert B. Bowman. Both had worked for several automotive manufacturers, and they received a patent for a four wheel drive system. They attempted to incorporate and begin manufacturing, but the business never materialized. The truck pictured may have been the only one built. The photograph was likely taken in 1919 or 1920. Construction of the state's Cass office building is seen in the background.

- This collection consists primarily of a scrapbook that was assembled by Sarah Morlok Cotton, one of the famous Morlok Quadruplets born in Lansing in 1930. There is also a folder of loose clippings, and four photographs of the girls when they were young. The scrapbook includes mainly local and national newspaper clippings about the quads' birth, their parents, special occasions such as their birthdays, and performances that they gave. Obituaries for the parents and two of the quads (who passed away during the time the scrapbook was being created), personal correspondence, and some information about the girls' health statistics are also part of the book.

- Description:
- This was the second state office building, at the southwest corner of South Washington Avenue and Allegan Street. It was built in 1871 and used for state government purposes until 1879 when the new capitol was completed. After that it held a combination of state offices and private enterprises. It was torn down in 1923. The flag over the road with a cross and crown in the top half may have been Knights Templar, and that and the buntings/decor on the state office building were perhaps done for one of the Knights Templar Conclaves that occurred in Lansing in the early 20th century. Parts of the original photograph at left and top were blanked out prior to the creation of this print.

- Description:
- Located at 525 W Michigan Ave. "Ye who pass by and would raise your hand against me, harken ere you harm me. I am the heat of your hearth on cold winter nights, the friendly shade screening you from the summer sun, and my fruits are refreshing draughts quenching your thirst as you journey on. I am the beam that holds your house, the board of your table, the bed on which you lie, and the timber that builds your boat. I am the handle of your hoe, the door of your homestead, the wood of your cradle, and the shell of your coffin. I am the bread of kindness and the flower of beauty. Ye who pass by, listen to my prayer. "Harm me not".
