- D. Carl Shilling with his collection of political buttons and ribbons. Shilling was a faculty member in the political science department beginning in 1921 and chair for the last seven years of his career at WMU. He retired in 1952. Photograph was printed in the Spring 1952 Western Michigan College News Magazine.

- Faculty members and 1952-1953 Fellowship awardees, Ralph Miller, Chester Hunt, and Elsworth Woods, standing around a globe. Ralph N. Miller, associate professor of English since 1946, was awarded a grant given by the Fund for the Advancement of Education, a branch of the Ford Foundation, to study in the United States. Chester L. Hunt, associate professor of sociology, was awarded a Fulbright grant for the 1952-53 school year to serve as a lecturer in sociology at the University of the Philippines. Elsworth Woods, professor of the political science department from 1949-1955, was selected for an instructorship in general education at Harvard University. After completing this study period, he headed of the Basic Studies program.
